X-men Origins: Wolverine Guide

Controls Skills

The game mandates a tutorial each time you go through the game, so it's not a big surprise about what you can or cannot do. The most recent trick you can do is displayed on the upgrade menu.

Actions What's it do
Weak Attack A fast attack that may be chained to attack enemies. Does light damage, but responds quickly to the situation.
Strong Attack A slow powerful attack that delivers more damage. Not as responsive to quick enemies or those who will counterattack.
Rage Attack Requires the rage to be enabled first. Once enraged, Logan (on the Wii) may hold both attack buttons then waggle the remote and nunchuk for various attacks.

  • Up and down for somersault.
  • Side to side for spinning slice.
  • Nunchuk and remote apart for uppercut.
  • Opportunity A special attack available against downed foes (periodically doesn't work). Use the weak slash to trigger it.
Quake Recovery Logan can ukemi from a strong blow by timing his block (PS2) or by dipping the remote downwards. This lets you recover and keep attacking.
Pounce or Lunge Logan can lunge at enemies (not needed except in special boss fights) or at various portions of the environment. This is how he can cross gaps best navigable by super power flight.

For the PS2, it's easy, pounce and follow the buttons to get across. For the Wii, mimic the motion on the screen after attempting a lunge.
Feral Sense Logan can smell/sense other things by using this. There is no penalty when in this view mode (unlike Ninja Vision in Ninja Blade) but anything revealed in this mode can be attacked or broken by enemy attacks as well as Logan's.
Block This will block against almost all attacks in most directions. Logan's healing factor makes it difficult to see if an attack is really chipping him away. However, blocking is needed against certa bosses on the Elite difficulty to avoid being killed.
Throw This lets Logan jab his claws into an enemy and throw him. Fairly easy on the PS2 and obnoxious on the Wii -- you have to hold the Block key and push the stick to an enemy to stab-throw.
Dodge Use the right stick or the D-pad on the Wii. A must-have function when fighting bosses on the Elite difficulty since one hit will kill Logan (even at max upgrade). Note Logan cannot dodge when his attack frames are still being animated.
