OutRun is one of Sega's oldest and most famous franchises. After a long and illustrious career in coin-op arcades across the world and a recent outing on the Xbox, the next OutRun title is prepping to hit the PS2, Xbox, PSP, and PC. We fired off some questions to SUMO's designer Travis Ryan about OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast and got the scoop on what gamers can expect from the title when it hits the streets in the not-too-distant future.

GameSpy: Tell us a little bit about Coast 2 Coast.
Travis Ryan: OutRun2006: Coast 2 Coast combines all the features, Ferraris and stages from AM2's arcade games OutRun2 and OutRun2SP and throws in a heap of new features, cars and game modes to create the complete OutRun2 package.
GameSpy: How does this game improve or innovate over the last release for Xbox?
Ryan: When we developed the original OutRun2 on Xbox our goal was to recreate AM2's stunning arcade work for the home console. With Coast 2 Coast our goal was to extend the product. OutRun has a surprising amount of depth beyond its quick-burst arcade appeal, and we wanted to complement the game with fun new features which we hope will appeal to fans of the series and new players alike -- we want all types of players, new and old, to enjoy OutRun!
GameSpy: Talk about the new fully licensed Ferraris.
Ryan: 5 new Ferraris have been added to the original line up, including the 575 Superamerica and the F430. Also new to Coast 2 Coast are 'OutRun Ferraris,' inspired by real-life modifications and designed with the help of Ferrari; these allow you to reach speeds previously unseen in OutRun! There are a total of 30 Ferraris in the game.
GameSpy: How many stages will Coast 2 Coast feature?
Ryan: Coast 2 Coast is home to over 60 stage variations: 15 European-themed stages from OutRun2 plus 15 USA-themed stages from OutRun2SP. Reverse versions of every stage have been created and they really do drive like new routes!

The OutRun2 stages offer a much more relaxing drive compared to the OutRun2SP stages, which are much more technical and thrilling to drive -- having the complete collection of stages gives the game a nice balance.
GameSpy: Talk about some of the new modes in the game.
Ryan: In addition to classic OutRun, Heart Attack and Time Attack Modes, we've added Coast 2 Coast Mode. Here you can race or try to please girls; whichever you choose!

Flagman has over 100 races missions, ranging from six to 99 rival races, across all manner of routes. He also issues Drift and Slipstream missions, as well as Knockout and all-new Don't Lose Your Girlfriend missions.

Pleasing girls is something altogether different. Each girl has a series of crazy requests for you to complete while driving. There are over 150 girl missions, and just like real girls they each require something totally different and demanding from you. Clarissa is a bit of a thrill seeker; her requests include Hit the Ghosts, Avoid the Falling Meteors and Dribble the Beach Ball. Jennifer tests your driving skill and requests you to Match the Speed, Run Through Zones, and Hit the Blue Cones, amongst other things. Finally, Holly is more of a thinker and will test you with puzzle type requests, including Do the Math, Count the Sheep and Spot the Odd One Out!

We have added a great many missions with lots of variety and ways to play; we hope players have fun in Coast 2 Coast Mode.
