Mega Man X: Command Mission

Fair

Can the Blue Bomber put his platforming past behind him as he sets off on an RPG adventure? Read Review

The first console RPG based on the Mega Man universe, Mega Man X: Command Mission follows X as he infiltrates Giga City Island to thwart the evil plans of the rioting Rebellion Army. By choosing from seven different playable characters, gamers can construct a three-member attack party using X, Zero, Axl, and several others. The game includes a unique "Cross Order System" that allows flawless execution of special and finishing attack moves on enemies, such as the Party Hookup, Action Trigger, Hyper Mode, and the linked main and sub-weapon Final Strike finishing move. Additionally, by using a super energy alloy called Force Metal, players can upgrade weapons, abilities, and attack moves -- greatly improving their character's capabilities.

Mega Man X: Command Mission

PS2 Reviews | Sep 20, 2004

Mega Man X has seen his share of trouble in the past few years. The last few games in the X series (the most recent being X7) have been, well, uninspired to say the least. Given Mega Man's long history of platform-based games, it was quite a surprise to see that the latest X title is a full-on, turn-based RPG. This was somewhat of a risky move on Capcom's part considering that Mega Man hasn't had the best of luck in switching genres (remember that a game called Mega Man Soccer actually exists). Mega Man X Command Mission

PS2 Previews | Sep 2, 2004

Mega Man hasn't had much luck branching out from 2D side scrolling games -- a mediocre board game for Famicom that never left Japan, a terrible soccer game for SNES, and a kart racer whose U.S. release was cancelled at the last minute. Even the 3D adventure games of the Legends series were met with relatively lukewarm responses (despite actually being pretty good games, Legends 2 especially). With this track record, it's understandable that one might be skeptical about the thought of a Mega Man RPG. Read More »

Mega Man X Command Mission

PS2 Previews | Jan 30, 2004

For all the time he's been with us, I find it hard to believe that Mega Man has never starred in a true-blue RPG. He had time for a critically reviled soccer game, one on one arcade fighting, and even strategy/action chip trading madness on the GBA. But good old-fashioned role-playing? Nope! Luckily, it appears that Capcom has finally gotten around to noticing this obvious oversight, as the upcoming Mega Man X Command Mission looks like the Mega Man RPG we've been craving ... or at least that we think would be a very good idea.
