AG, thanks for the second write-in, but "don't buy it if you can't afford it" is probably a little short-sighted. The system is still very expensive, and smug eliteness about early adoption is not going to magically make consumers start buying this system. Games (which will come as the system matures; I agree with you there), and a price that's closer to mass market purchasing, will.
Steven, your conundrum about regional locks on PS2 games on the PS3 presents an interesting scenario. You bought a Japanese PS3 to get it early, because it's less expensive than the PAL machine, and now you're locked out of playing the NZ version of God of War II. I can only grit my teeth on that one; importing is a tricky thing, and sometimes you get burned.

Hastiness sometimes doesn't pay off.
Rogerio, you'd have to ask Sony Europe why it waits to localize games for the region, instead of releasing a PAL version in the UK that's in English, then patching language tracks and text for the rest of the region. I will say that localization probably takes longer than you think, and I'm sure that other countries want to play at the same time that you do; a simultaneous release ensures that everyone gets to play at once, at least within Europe.
Alex, you've expressed a lot of frustration with Resistance's online experience. Have you tried participating in Insomniac's Friday events that the team does after their podcast? Perhaps you'll find a community of good players, minus the sorts of anonymous ultra-rudeness that's compounded by the lack of a headset. Also, I'd suggest waiting for the patch, which is still going through processing with SCEA as I write this, since it should hopefully balance out some of your myriad issues with the game.
Gordon, I'll answer your five points on why you think Sony is failing as quickly as possible. Firstly, I think 720p, not 1080p, is going to be the standard that you'll see games clocking in at for this generation of consoles; the consumer, not Sony or Microsoft, will answer with his or her money. Secondly, few believe the system will sell at $600 right now. Also, I'm not going to take swipes at my colleagues in the field, but the Sony backlash has been going for a year now -- that's not to say that some of it isn't deserved, but some of it can get a little sensationalist. I think that some very solid (first-party) titles this fall will go a long way in making the system more attractive. Finally, it's safe to say that Microsoft has spent well over five years in making Xbox Live the gold standard for online gaming; PSN has lots of catching up to do.
Finally, there's Ed. I'd love to see Soul Reaver on the PSP, Ed, but I think that Resident Evil Outbreak would sink like a stone on the system considering the failures of the PS2 games. Action, adventure, and platform games lend themselves to the system, I agree, and Ikaruga would be awesome on PSP. I too am wondering what Konami will have up its sleeve for Metal Gear on PSP, so stay tuned around E3 (in about a month) for big news.
